The Classification Office classifies a range of written, recorded or stored information or images. These publications can be classified as restricted or objectionable if the Office thinks that making the publication available to everyone would be injurious to the public good. Censorship system
The Office of Film and Literature Classification works with a number of other agencies to maintain the censorship system and enforce censorship law.
The Films, Videos and Publications Classification Act 1993 establishes the Classification Office and gives the Office power to examine and classify publications.

Do you need a copy of a decision?
If you are an official and have submitted a publication, or made a submission on a publication, contact the Information Unit to find out if the publication has been classified.
